E.T. and the American work ethic

This just in from our senora at dinner last night...

We were talking (in Spanish) about how hard people in different countries work. Spaniards work short hours, Germans work long hours...

But Americans - Americans work the most, she says.

She looks at TJ and I, and to prove her point, asks: "Haven't you seen the movie E.T.?"

TJ and I look at each other blankly, then nod.

"That lady," she says, "That lady worked so much she didn't even know she had an alien in her closet!"

And she wasn't trying to be funny - to her this a valid proof of how hard Americans work!

Though it seems a bit funny to think about E.T. and American work ethics, the senora made a very good point. We do get too caught up in work issues and as the Bible indicates...."be still and know". Jesus was the best example of doing work. He knew when he had to retreat and refresh then serve. We need to follow His lead!! Thanks for the pics and updates. Happy Birthday TJ. Love to Holly.

Mo and I got a good laugh out of your story. I wish I had been there to catch that moment in pure digital audio, but I can't be everywhere. Though we haven't been religious about emails or even checking the blog, we miss you guys tons. Moriah says she hasn't sat down to email Holly because she doesn't want to get her keyboard soaked with tears. She actually had a teary-eyed conversation with Caroline last night after church. She's such a girl.

The Albrights have moved into the dup on Battery. It actually looks surprisingly clean. You did well. We're enjoying our new furniture but wishing we could trade it for having you guys around.

love you both
